It was the day after Thanksgiving, and Adam and I were due to take Ryan back to San Francisco, and spend some time exploring the city. By the time we got my car back from the shop (after declining a 3-day teardown) and collected Ryan from Starbucks, most of the day was gone. When we picked him up, he requested that on the way back to the city, we drive along the coast, because [supposedly] although he'd been touring the West Coast for over a month, he hadn't actually been to the ocean, just various protected bays.
We decided to head for Muir beach, rather than Bodega Bay, because it was more "on the way". However, as I was driving, I missed the road because the name on the map didn't match the name on the signs. Instead of helping me find the right road when I asked, the guys used Ryan's GPS unit and arbitrarily changed the route, meaning that now I had NO CLUE how to get where I was going. I was rather miffed, (to put it mildly - I was actually really angry, since they'd spent all day just casually blowing our plans and coming up with other things to do instead) and hardly spoke for the rest of the drive. Adam could tell I was mad, but I wasn't ready at that point to discuss it. (Especially not with Ryan in the car).
When we got there, Ryan took out his camera and started gleefully shooting everything in sight. (the photo here is one of his, I added the text from Matthew - it seemed to fit the shot.) Adam and I wandered off to get out of the way of the camera. He asked why I was mad, and I told him, and he apologized. Everything was good again.
It was just before sunset, and an absolutely gorgeous day. As we walked, arm in arm, Adam said
"I think it's a beautiful day, isn't it?"
"Yes, it is."
"This is the day the Lord has made,"
"Let us rejoice and be glad in it!"
"Amen. Karilyn, will you marry me?" - as he spoke, he pulled the box out of his pocket and opened it. We were standing in front of the ocean, with the first rays of the sunset turning the water to gold. I hid my face in his shoulder for a moment, then said Yes.
After he put the ring on my finger, we walked back toward Ryan, and spent the rest of the sunset being photographed. :) He had some amazing pictures, too! (See my facebook photo albums).
