On worship...

I can't say for sure that I've always had an appreciation for the liturgy and forms of the church I grew up in, but I have for most of my life enjoyed being part of the ancient (or at least very old) forms of worship that the saints through history have used.
My favorite hymns are the oldest, even the plainsong chants that congregations dread and pastors learn to avoid. I love the canticles and the chanting of the service, and the solemnity that flows from repeating an act of worship that has been handed down through generations.
Ancient traditions, even those that have long been out of practice, are of interest to me. Some, of course, were abandoned because they strayed from Biblical principles - those I'll not promote. Others, though, fell out of practice simply because they seemed to archaic, or the church as a whole swung with the pendulum of opinion and lost interest in traditions. Those, I seek out and enjoy -and I mean that with the emphasis on the word "joy" - it lifts my heart and spirit to participate in worship in this way.
